As everyone in my contact list may already know, I met Erykah Badu on Friday night. Jason aka Baby Betch and I drove to Austin to have dinner with Joshua for a little pre-birthday celebration. Downtown Austin on any Friday night can be crazy in general, but this past week was SXSW so it was a tad bit more extreme.
An hour trip took us two and a half (from San Antonio). There was insane traffic the entire way there. When we finally made it to the downtown area we were greeted by even more craziness with barricades and detours. Finally we meet Josh and they decide to go to Whole Foods for dinner. WHOLE FOODS… Really?!
At that point I was so aggravated by the drive and practically peeing my pants that I didn’t care.
We got our dinner, sat down and made fools of ourselves like always. Jason, Joshua and I can be vulgar enough on our own, put us together and there is a joke cracked, water spit, and a shocked expression every 2 minutes. (like for real).
So I’m sitting, having my deliciously overpriced salad and pizza when I think I see her. I made a crazy face at Jason, grabbed my phone, told them to watch my purse and hurried up to her. Jason said at this point I did a mini-bow in front of her, hands waved in the air while I crouched over “Are you Erykah Badu?”…
She was completely sweet, agreed to a photo, took the phone out of my hand and took them herself.
I peeped out how much I love her music and how long I’ve been a fan. It came out jumbled, I think, but I said it damnit and that’s all that matters.
I have loved Erykah since forever, since she graced my ears for the first time with her first album. I saw her perform for the first time at Lilith Fair ‘98, yes girl, Lilith Fair. I love Worldwide Underground as much as I love Baduizm…. I am a fan through and through.
I tweeted her, she replied.
I can’t go into further detail without making an even bigger fool of myself, but you can only imagine my excitement.
